The AI Masterclass – TLF is a focused session designed to help legal professionals navigate the practical realities of AI adoption. It begins with Segment 1: “Supervising the Machine: What’s Changing, which addresses the critical risks of AI, including hallucinations, bias, and liability. The segment also highlights the role of grounding technologies in reducing these risks and explores supervisory models tailored to the legal sector. Real-world examples from Microsoft and leading law firms will provide a practical lens on how AI is being safely and effectively integrated into legal workflows. Segment 2: “Getting AI-Ready: From Policy to Practice” shifts the discussion towards implementation. It focuses on what a robust AI governance framework should look like for legal teams, outlining the essential steps firms should already be taking. The session concludes with an Open Mic & Q&A, offering participants an opportunity to engage with speakers, raise practical challenges, and clarify approaches to AI supervision. Panel 9B: Generative AI and the Legal Profession: Towards Ethical and Effective Adoption – Presented by the Law Society of Singapore
Conference (Saraca Rooms Level 3)
Thu 11 Sep 2025, 3:30pm - 4:30pm
Generative AI has the potential to reshape the practice of law. Studies indicate that its adoption can save lawyers as much as four hours per week. Time saved can be redeployed to higher-value billable work or towards improving lawyers’ overall well-being. However, these gains will only be realised if AI tools are implemented ethically and effectively. Recognising this, the Singapore Judiciary has issued a Registrar’s Circular setting out expectations on the ethical use of Gen AI in court submissions. Looking ahead, the country’s Ministry of Law has released - for consultation - a draft guide that will extend these considerations to the broader legal sector. View it here This panel comprising members of the Law Society’s Generative AI, IT, and Cybersecurity & Data Protection Committees and the Ministry of Law, will examine how such policy instruments can guide Singapore’s lawyers in navigating the opportunities and risks of Gen AI. Beyond compliance, the discussion will consider how responsible adoption can strengthen professional standards, safeguard the administration of justice, and position Singapore’s legal sector at the forefront of innovation.
